Lee Roy Selmon's history combines the benefits of football scholarship and volunteerism in the community. He was the youngest son of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon. They took care of him at the family farm near Eufala. In football, he played with his three brothers from Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi award as the nation's best lineman. During his three-year tenure as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and won two national championships. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned a degree from the University of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy was involved in voluntary work for 10 hours a week throughout his college years. Then he settled in Tampa after graduation, and played with the Buccaneers for nine years and was three-times all-pro. His business career began. His first job was as an Account Relations Manager at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's most outstanding young males. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch larger and weighing 256 pounds in college as player, commanded his team during the season of 1975. In 1993, he became the as associate director at the University of South Florida. Selmon has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded their Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
