April Ross
April Ross is one of the few female beach volleyball stars who have won medals in many Olympics. Alix-Klineman will compete with April Ross in Tokyo to win her third gold medal in the next few days. Ross also hopes to get her first Olympic medal. This may be the last opportunity she gets to do so at the age of 39. But she's convinced that the top awards are at hand. If we perform at our very top or play well I feel like we can get that gold medal Ross stated on NBC Boston. So I'm going to take the chance also. Ross was born in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. Her parents and sister lived in the area. At Newport Harbor High School, she competed in numerous sports. She competed in basketball and track, in addition to her indoor volleyball achievements in her time as a college athlete. Although she was a pro when playing indoors, it was clear that her abilities were higher than the average. According to her bio, during high school she played volleyball as an outside setter (middle blocker) as well as a setting (outside blocker). To honor her achievements, she received the Gatorade Award for National Player in 1999. The skills she showed in volleyball also won her an Orange County Athlete of the Awards in the year 2000. Ross and Klineman have been continuing to play from 2017. However, Ross played a significant role in the beach volleyball scene prior to the pair. As a matter of fact Ross has been a winner of several major tournaments in her career along with her two teammates. One of them is a volleyball legend. The pair teamed with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and also was Klineman's coach. Together together with Kessy Ross, she won an Olympic Title in 2009, while racing in the international circuit. They went into winning a silver at the 2012 Olympic Games at London. The legendary Misty Maytreanor team and Kerri Jennings took home the gold. The fate of the matter was that Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner when May-Treanor retired. They took home the bronze medal in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross was a Trojans player for the USC throughout her college prior to becoming a professional. She had a great run through the NCAA tournament. The year 2000 was her freshman year. was when she won the Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman of the award and become an All-American. Additionally, she was one of the key players to help the Trojans reach it to the Final Four. The second season of her career she suffered a devastating personal tragedy, but earned the distinction of being an All-American. Over the course of her final two seasons she led the Trojans to the top of the mountain and clinched consecutive national championships. Individually she had cemented her place as a legend by winning the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross had been an international studies student at USC. Margie Ross was not able to witness Ross achieve beach volleyball's top levels. Ross's mother passed away from breast carcinoma in the year 2001. Ross had just become an undergraduate student in the second year at USC. This meant that Ross remains near to her mother who passed away. Also, Margie is an ongoing source of motivation for her at the beaches and throughout her daily life.
